This podcast is aimed at all members of JGU who are confronted with the question of how they can best support people affected by sexual harassment or violence. Many people have limited experience or confidence in handling situations like these. With this series, we seek to provide guidance and offer initial suggestions on how to respond. This podcast is designed to raise awareness and promote actions that are tailored to each situation and follow the relevant guidelines.

We are happy to answer any questions you may have. Even more, we would be delighted if you shared your questions or challenges with us so that we can address them anonymously in a future episode.

For more information on dealing with sexual harassment and violence at JGU, see the resources at the bottom of this page.

Students find themselves in complex social structures at university – often in structures with power imbalances that make it difficult to classify or address experiences of abuse. That’s why season 2 of our podcast now focuses on the student perspective.

We would like to address these questions, among others:

  • When does a situation constitute sexual harassment?
  • What can I do if I am affected myself or witness a fellow student getting harassed?
  • Where can I find support as a student?
  • How do power relations play out in specific contexts – for example, in field research or STEM disciplines?
  • How can I foster appropriate ways of interacting with others?

We want to explore these and other questions in the upcoming episodes, building on the first season, which already addressed the fundamental aspects of sexualized harassment and violence.

In eight episodes, experts provide guidance for supervisors and share insights from their daily consulting work. The goal is to convey foundational knowledge, promote the ability to act, and foster a safe environment at JGU.

The diagram is taken from the Guidelines for Protection Against Sexual Harassment and Sexualized Violence and illustrates possible courses of action in cases of sexual harassment, sexualized discrimination, or sexualized violence if the person(s) causing the harassment have been identified.
