In cooperation with the Autonomous AllFLINTA* (female, lesbian, inter, non-binary, trans, agender) devision of the General Students’ Committee (AStA) of Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz (JGU), we aim to make everyday life at university more comfortable for all menstruating students. Under the motto “Menstruation is part of everyday life – even at university!”, we hope to contribute to breaking taboos and increasing the visibility of menstruation.
As a first step, two “period boxes” filled with tampons and sanitary pads were installed in two JGU buildings this week (calender week 28).
The tampon and sanitary pad dispensers are located near the toilets in the basement of the Law and Economics building (ReWi) and on the first floor of the Georg Forster Building (GFG) on the JGU campus.
The project will run as a pilot for one year. An initial evaluation will help ensure that period products continue to be provided free of charge and eventually become available in all campus restrooms.
